Kate Handley – Interview

Kate Handley (matriculated 2005) talked to us about what inspired her to embark on the Pacific Crest Trail, lessons she learned and the shifts it inspired in her life.

The hardest decision was definitely the one to hike the trail. I am a lawyer and the legal services industry comes with a lot of pressure to follow a certain trajectory, from getting a degree and articles to working at a big firm and working towards eventually becoming a partner. I just couldn’t conform to that script and I had to give myself permission to actually take time off.

A Blooming Affair 2018

A wonderful day was had by all at A Blooming Affair, held on Saturday 06 October.  The weather was sunny and bright, the gardens were looking magnificent and the crafters and food stall holders displayed their wares with great aplomb!  The SAORA is delighted to announce the winners of the raffle:

SAORA Cocktail Party Cape Town

Once again, a most enjoyable evening was spent at the Alphen Hotel in Constantia, where Old Girls from the Cape Town area gathered together for a chat with school friends and a ‘catch-up’ on SAORA news. Murray Thomas, the Roedean (SA) Executive Head, and his wife, Joanne, joined the party to meet the Capetonians.

Old Girls come back to school

SAORA welcomed these Old Girls back to school when they took part in the varsity orientation talk that was part of the ‘Welcome to SAORA’ event held recently for the Matrics.  The Old Girls spoke about their personal experiences at varsity and gave the Matrics an insight into varsity life.

Jane Asher (Matric 1947) awarded a BEM

Congratulations to Jane Asher (Matric 1947) who was recently awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her contribution to swimming.  Jane Asher has been involved in club swimming for decades, and at 87 years old continues to compete for Wimbledon’s Kings Cormorants Swimming Club. [Read more…]
